‘What smart home was always meant to be’: Doma unveils Intelligent Doors and Windows

A startup has developed doors and windows that integrate sensing, control and automation directly into their architectural surfaces.

Founded by August Home creators Jason Johnson and Yves Behar, Doma aims to shift the smart home from a collection of connected devices to an “intelligent environment”.

Its new Intelligent Doors aim to be active and responsive parts of the home: they feature the company’s WelcomeDrive motorised opener, which authenticates homeowners on their approach to both open and close the door independently.

The company has developed these products with manufacturers including Kolbe, GlassCraft, MasterGrain, Doors & More, Artema and Liberty Openings.

Behar said: “Doma is our answer to what the smart home was always meant to be - intelligence that disappears into the architecture, working quietly in the background to make life simpler, safer, and more human.”

Radar, motion and facial recognition sensors detect movement and identity, while a high-security multipoint lock and interior control panel are built in.

All components are hardwired, with no batteries or bridges, and designed to be serviced without removing the door.

As a result, the door entry solution preserves the aesthetic appeal of wood, metal or fibreglass surfaces.

Johnson explained the company aims to make intelligence the home’s foundation, much like electricity or plumbing.

Doma Intelligent Windows will follow, offering automated opening, electronic locking, air-quality and occupancy monitoring to support HVAC efficiency and security.

Integration with smart ecosystems include Matter, Savant, Google Home and more.

Doma-enabled doors will be available from partner manufacturers from summer 2026, with windows expected in autumn 2026.
